My Story

Owner of Revolution Woodcraft: Shae

As I explored art again, through many twists, turns, reading, watching, and learning, I discovered wood working and eventually found my niche and passion in woodturning. I'm a big believer in the idea that one is never too old to turn a new corner and carve a new path.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an artist.

I loved drawing, painting, photography, clay, you name it. I considered becoming a tattoo artist or a photographer, but as I grew into adulthood, the path to becoming an artist eluded me. I tried out various "responsible adult professions", eventually settling into the most important job of all: stay-at-home dad. As my children have grown, however, I have begun dabbling in art again. I realized this is the time to turn my hobby into my career.

Wood is the perfect medium for me. The lathe is the perfect tool.

There is something truly magical about the way a piece of wood's character is revealed as I turn a piece and the layers fall away, revealing the treasures of form and design beneath. It is nearly a form of meditation. Waves and curls, incredible variations in color, and even damage from insects, stress and other natural variations of the raw wood present interesting challenges and eye-catching details. In the final piece you can read the story of the tree and the art it has become. I've learned that sometimes a piece is perfect in its natural woodturned shape, and sometimes embellishments of wood burning or inlay can make the bespoke piece even more beautiful and personalized.

I've found that my greatest joy in this art is the uniqueness of each piece I design. From wood choice to product form to embellishment to wood burning design, no two pieces are ever the same. Each one is made with my passion as an artist and attention to the finest details. When a piece is complete, there's literally nothing in the world like it.

I am excited to share my art with you. I am excited to collaborate. I am excited to bring ideas to life in unique and magical ways. Let's create something beautiful together.
